Views sought on plan to increase island taxi fares Islanders have been invited to give feedback on proposals to increase maximum taxi fares, the States of Guernsey has said. The Committee for the Environment and Infrastructure is proposing an increase of 4.75% from 25 November. A States spokesperson said this would mean that a two-mile journey would increase by 40p from £6.10 to £6.50, whereas a five-mile journey would increase by £1 from £23.10 to £24.10. The committee is also proposing changes to the taxi tariff structure to support the industry and encourage more drivers to work at times when there is greatest demand. The proposed changes are as follows: Start the evening/public holidays tariff at 19:00 BST on a Friday, instead of 22:00, to mirror Saturday and Sunday Apply the evening/public holidays tariff to all day on Saturday, and/or all day on Sunday but remove the 60p surcharge currently in place for Sundays as recommended in the 2022 Taxi Review Start the evening/public holidays tariff at 18:00 on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, instead of 19:00 Amend the tariff seating capacity categories from one to four passengers, five to seven passengers and eight passengers to one to four, five to six and seven to eight Residents will have until 1 November to comment on the proposals. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yjw83wr30o
