Four people injured after taxi hits pedestrians by Glasgow Central Station
FOUR people have been taken to injured after a taxi collided with a group of pedestrians in Glasgow City Centre.
Police cordoned off an area outside Glasgow Central Station following a traffic incident at around 1:50pm Saturday.
Two women, aged 60 and 61, and the male driver of the taxi, aged 62, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital following the crash which happened around 1.50pm on Union Street.
A 61-year-old woman was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and a 50-year-old woman was assessed by paramedics at the scene.
Eyewitnesses claim that a black cab ran over pedestrians in the city centre. More than twenty emergency service vehicles were on the scene at Union Street's junction with Gordon Street following the incident.
Renfield Street was closed at its junction with St Vincent Street while the Gordon Street exit into Union Street was also shut.

"We're on our way to Silverburn and heard a taxi hit some people. The tents went up really quickly."

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "Around 1.50pm, we attended a report of a crash involving a taxi and three pedestrians on Union Street, at the junction with Gordon Street, in Glasgow City Centre.
"Three people were taken by ambulance to hospital and one person made their way from the scene.
"There are road closures in place on Union Street, Renfield Street and St Vincent Street. Gordon Street is open to pedestrians only."
Sergeant Christopher Hoggans, from Police Scotland road policing, added: “Our inquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact us with any information they may have.
“I would also ask anyone with recording equipment to check the footage as it could assist us in our ongoing investigation.”
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 1.55pm to assist partners at Union Street in Glasgow.
"Operations control mobilised two appliances and a specialist resource to the scene.
