Taxi driver picked up woman from drinks with friends then raped her in cab

A taxi driver who raped a woman he was called to collect and take home has been jailed. Dediki Mosi, 37, was branded a 'sexual predator' by police as he starts a jail sentence.

The woman, 29 at the time, called a taxi to take her home from a friend's house after a night out, but Mosi assaulted and raped her inside his car after collecting her. The detective who led the investigation called his crimes 'monstrous' and welcoming his jail sentence, said 'the streets are a safer place for women without him'.

Mosi, of Aldercroft Avenue in Breightmet, Bolton, was sentenced by a judge at Manchester Crown Court on Friday (August 30) to 10 years after he was found guilty by a jury after trial of rape, sexual assault and sexual assault by penetration.

In a statement, GMP said: "At 2.30pm on the 19 September 2020, the victim, a woman who was 29 at the time, said she had been for a few drinks and a meal with her friends in a pub in Wigan. After going out for the meal, the victim went back to her friend’s house, later on in the night, she left her friend’s house, and a taxi was ordered to take her home.

"Dediki Mosi, who was the taxi driver, assaulted the woman and raped her while she was in his car. Mosi was arrested on suspicion of rape in October 2020. When interviewed by detectives, Mosi said 'what rape?' and also said that he used to have a working dash cam in his car, but on the night of the rape it was broken."

Detective Constable Sally-Anne Skellern, of GMP’s Wigan District, said: "Mosi spotted his victim and took advantage of her, she was alone after going out for drinks with her friends and just needed someone to get her home safely. Mosi should have been the person who got her home safely, instead he raped her in his taxi.
