A Birmingham taxi driver has lost an appeal to have his licence reinstated after it was revoked following allegations of sexual assault on a customer. Tariq Rehman, 75, from Stechford, had his licence revoked by Solihull Council in November last year following a complaint from the passenger. Following the revocation, Birmingham Magistrates’ Court heard that Rehman was abusive and threatening to staff at Solihull Council and the private hire operator he had been working for. Mr Rehman then lodged an appeal against the decision. Birmingham Magistrates’ Court upheld the council’s original ruling on August 12 and ordered Rehman to pay £1,200 in costs. Councillor Wazma Qais, Solihull Council’s cabinet member for Communities, said: “Public safety is our top priority. "Anyone using a taxi or private hire vehicle must be able to trust the driver. “I would like to say thank you to our staff in regulatory services for the way they have handled this case and also to the brave woman who reported the sexual assault in the first place.” www.phtm.co.uk/news/6944/phtm-news/solihull-licensed-cabbie-loses-appeal-after-licence-revoked-over-sexual-assault-claim
