Manchester City Council
Taxi Licensing Bulletin 9th August 2024
Dear Licensee
We appreciate it is a difficult time nationally but please be assured of a stable situation in Manchester and a strong partnership response to maintain this.
Greater Manchester Police wish to reassure all communities that they are actively monitoring intelligence to ensure they can respond effectively and are heavily resourced with staff working around the clock to tackle these issues and ensure communities are safe and supported. Violence and abuse will not be tolerated and GMP will use all resources and powers available.
Current advice is that communities remain calm and try to go about your everyday life and this includes our licensed trade. There is no intelligence at present that there is any specific risk to licensed taxi and private hire drivers or that licensed drivers are any more vulnerable than usual.
Processes are in place to ensure that the Council is kept informed should any relevant intelligence be received that requires action.
Equally importantly is the safety of the public when using taxis and private hire vehicles which is why it is a requirement for signage to identify licensed vehicles and it is not considered appropriate or necessary to mandate the removal of all required signage at this stage.
Please remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times, even when you are parked.
If you become aware of any risk, or potential for community disorder, please highlight this through sending details to ForceCommunityHub@gmp.police.uk and if there is an immediate threat please call 999. You can also report anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
