The significant achievement highlights TX's global success and underscores LEVC’s commitment to improving air quality in our cities.
Since its launch in 2018, London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC)’s electric TX taxi has prevented more than 200,000 tonnes of harmful CO2 emissions from entering the earth’s atmosphere.
This CO2 saving is the equivalent to the emissions of more than 111,000 passenger flights from London to Sydney. A stack of thousand CO2 tonne spheres with a 5×5 base would stretch half a mile high – 8.4 x the height of Big Ben – and be equivalent to filling 42,749 Olympic swimming pools. In addition, LEVC’s TX has travelled more than 700 million miles globally, with the company producing more than 10,000 of its revolutionary electric TX taxis, which have been sold throughout the world. In London, the TX has now overtaken the diesel-powered TX4 as the most common black cab, with more than 7,500 TXs operating on the streets of the capital.

As well as reaching the significant emission saving milestone, this year also marks the 200th anniversary since the first Hackney carriage was licenced in London, and 75 years since the first ‘black cab’ as we know it, was born – in the form of the FX3. Today’s TX now provides sustainable transport to both drivers and passengers in more than 20 countries.
LEVC’s history began in 1908 when the first dedicated black cab was specially designed and commissioned for use in London. With its unmistakable silhouette and classic design cues, this iconic British vehicle has defined the company for over a century. In 2018, LEVC introduced its latest taxi model, the electric TX LEVC’s eCity technology. The purpose-built, range-extended electric TX taxi is manufactured at LEVC’s factory in Ansty, Coventry, and the company has recently announced its new strategy to become a leading zero-carbon mobility technology company delivering smart, green and accessible mobility solutions.
