The records of thousands of Manchester taxi drivers are to be checked by police hunting a sex attacker.
Officers are working with the council’s licensing department after a teenager was assaulted by a black cab driver.
Detectives have issue an ‘evofit’ – a 3D e-fit – of the driver, who struck after taking the victim from the city centre to a street in Sale.
There are an estimated 1,400 black cabs registered with the council, but each vehicle could have up to three different drivers.
Police are cross-checking all of the files, which will contain photographs of each driver.
The victim was picked up outside the Tiger Tiger club in Manchester’s Printworks complex.
After driving to Sale the driver got out and started talking to the teenager.
The victim said she had lost a camera and the driver offered to help her find it.
But as they talked he sexually assaulted her. The victim ran away and the man then drove off.
The incident happened in the early hours of July 26. Police have seized CCTV from the Printworks.
The man is described as Asian, 5ft 8in tall, with dark hair and stubble.
Pc Kenneth McMahon, said: “The victim thought and rightly expected that the driver was going to help her get home safely, instead he took advantage of her and sexually assaulted
her.
“She is understandably upset by what has happened and I want anyone who recognises the driver from this image to get in touch.” At this stage police are not linking the attack to any other incidents.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 7897, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111
