My Pal Ged Moran keeps busy. I should say behave yourself when he is around.
However that would be an injustice.
Ged is great Guy and always has a smile, when you meet him.
He is a great friend of my other M8 Bert Jones
Bert and Ged were the driving force behind the Manchester Taxi driver's Co-Operative. The Co-op did a brilliant job launching the "ghost Buster's' Obtaining convictions for plying for hire from the Hundreds of Private hire who decended on Manchester on weekend nights.
The Manchester Co-op faded away through lack of support from the trade. Contributions were required to compensate the driver's (and wives) to give up thier nights work and act as decoy's to entrap Pirates. So successful were these operations they secured a full broadcast on Granada TV, a program that really shocked the Manchester Travelling public and did save many other serious incidents
Asking drivers to pay a 50 pence contribution to pay other's to sweep the streets of Pirates was, unbelieveably
too hard. One excuse often used was "ask me later I have only just started and have not taken a job yet" (this was said on a Saturday night around Midnight.)
I now link you to the dreadful incident that finally made the authorites pay attention to the Co-Ops warning.
Ged, Bert and a few other other guys and girl's may have saved a lot of misery for Families like the thacker family.
I think today, we would pay a lot more than 50 pence to have Ged and Bert back behind the wheel.
