The occupants of a taxi which was smashed into by a car involved in a high speed police chase thought they were going to die, an inquest has heard. Two students being driven home in an Uber on the evening of September 23, 2020, sustained serious injuries, with one having to fight for their life, after a Mercedes carrying Paddy Connors and Tommy Sharp crashed head on into them at high speed. Paddy, 36, and Tommy, 29, were killed in the smash.
Amber Jones and Jessica Stenstrom were both second year students at the time of the incident, and had been working at Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Trafford Park before sharing an Uber home. The Uber was driven by experienced taxi driver Waquas Pervez, who picked them up around 11.30pm that evening to take them to the Frederick Road area of Salford.
Day two of an inquest into the deaths of Tommy and Paddy took place at Bolton Town Hall today (January 24), with Mr Pervez telling the court that the roads in Salford were quiet when he drove down Frederick Road. However, around 11.48pm he approached a bend and dip in the road, with headlights 'suddenly' appearing in mid-air in front of him.
