Uber has teamed up with a second Derby taxi firm as it grows its partnerships with local operators. The internationally-known company has partnered with Western Cars, based in Osmaston Road, as part of their Local Cab service.
It follows Uber joining forces with PJ Cars, based in Dairyhouse Road, in late October, this year, in the first Local Cab agreement in the city. That meant that users could ask for a local taxi via the Uber app for the first time since it launched in Derby in 2017, with Western Cars being available on the app from Thursday, November 24.
To use the service, a rider simply has to download the app, which will locate them using GPS-enabled maps, and request a car at the touch of a button. Derby users will still be able to select other standard Uber-operated car schemes such as UberX and UberXL.
Muj Khan, Manager at Western Cars, said: "We look forward to making Local Cab available to more people across Derby. We feel that now, more than ever, a product like Local Cab is needed – with demand for taxis continuing to rise and passengers in need of more options."
