Cheltenham Festival private hire vehicle warning and taxi advice issued
The four-day Cheltenham Festival begins next week and the town will transform into a hive of activity as people pour into the town from far and wide. Thousands of racegoers will use public transport this festival and both Cheltenham Borough Council and Tewkesbury Borough Council licensing teams advise that they should pre-book private hire vehicles and not take unnecessary risks.
Private hire drivers are also being warned by the council's licensing team that they should only come to Cheltenham this week for the purposes of fulfilling legitimate pre-bookings. The council's licensing teams will be undertaking test purchasing operations and drivers found guilty of illegally plying for hire face fines of £1000 and the prospect of losing their licence.
