Manganese Bronze Holdings, the company behind London's iconic black cab, is planning to recruit up to 50 UK dealers to sell Chinese-made Geely cars. Group chief executive John Russell, whose career has taken in stints with a number of carmakers, including Peugeot and Land Rover, told Motor Trader he aims to start talking to dealers next month with a view to holding a formal presentation of the Geely brand. “We hope to be talking to dealers by the end of the year,” he said. Russell said he is hoping to recruit between 30 and 50 dealers to represent Geely. Initially two derivatives of the Emgrand EC718, a Toyota Corolla sized car, will be imported, confirmed Russell. Russell declined to outline the sales volumes he expects from the fledgling brand in the UK, stressing that the group needed to build a sustainable model. He is aiming to get the car on sale by the back end of 2012. The car has European type approval for left hand drive but RHD approval will not come until "well into next year".
