Commitee Meeting Heard.
1. Manchester Cars Private Hire Company made an application for a roof advert for all their vehicles, they applied for their Company name to be put on the roof of all their vehicles so this can be seen above street level, they state that most of their clients are in apartments in the city, above clubs, stores etc.......and looking down they can see it is their car in the street and leave home and come to their vehicle. They await the approval from the licensing unit.
2. Driver Training: Several Councillors were voicing the opinion that as a result of the mystery shopper exercise, they were of the opinion that a DSA driving test should be introduced for all Taxi and PH drivers. It would be unfair to put this burdon on drivers who had been continually licenced and found “fit and proper” every year, all though we would agree to some form of disability awareness being done, we were asked in our opinion why when the Manchester College put together a programme of training in this field no driver had taken it up, our reply was simple really, drivers will not complete courses like this because they dont have to do them and cant be bothered, we surgested that they make it compulsary and we put forward that we are the view it should be placed on new drivers entering the trade.
